South Lyon Community School District said a “security incident” caused a network outage that shut parts of its systems, closing schools Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, and again Tuesday, Sept. 16. The district, based in South Lyon, Michigan, reported the issue began Sunday, Sept. 14, and said portions of the network remain offline while outside cybersecurity experts investigate and restore services. Families were directed to district communications for updates, and an alert on the district website confirmed the closure on Sept. 15.

Officials said recovery may take a few days. South Lyon Community Schools serves an 83-square-mile area across parts of Oakland, Washtenaw and Livingston counties and operates 12 schools plus an Early Childhood Center; enrollment is about 8,400 students (2023–24).
