Cyberattack Disrupts Arizona Candidate Portal During June Filing Period

The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona, reported a temporary outage of its Candidate Portal following the detection of a cyberattack during the week of June 23, 2025. The attempted intrusion, identified by the state’s IT and cybersecurity teams during routine monitoring, prompted officials to take the portal offline for a full security review. The statewide voter registration database was not affected by the incident.

Secretary of State Adrian Fontes highlighted the increasing threat of foreign interference in election infrastructure, calling such dangers “real, persistent, and growing.” Despite the disruption, the elections department ensured that candidates could continue filing required documents. Fontes credited the state’s IT and cybersecurity personnel for their rapid response and announced continued monitoring and updates via the official state website, azsos.gov.
