DHR Health Cyberattack Disrupts Texas Hospital Systems

DHR Health, based in Edinburg, Texas, experienced a cyberattack on March 20, 2025, disrupting its information systems. The hospital reports that all facilities, including clinics, remain operational, though some technical issues, such as phone system outages, have been reported. It has not confirmed whether patient or staff data was compromised.

DHR Health previously partnered with cybersecurity firm Trend Micro to strengthen its defenses, aiming to protect critical healthcare data and infrastructure across approximately 5,000 endpoints. This incident highlights the ongoing cybersecurity risks faced by Texas healthcare providers. In October 2024, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) suffered IT outages from a cyberattack, affecting campuses in Amarillo, El Paso, and Lubbock. Similarly, University Medical Center (UMC) Health System in Lubbock experienced a ransomware attack in September 2024, causing system disruptions and patient diversions. These incidents underscore the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity protections to safeguard sensitive data and ensure uninterrupted patient care.
