Harris County lies in southeast Texas on the Gulf Coastal Plain, with Houston as its county seat and Galveston Bay along its eastern edge. Its 34 cities include Houston, Pasadena and Baytown, while a large share of the county remains unincorporated. Buffalo Bayou, the San Jacinto River, the Houston Ship Channel and an extensive network of bayous shape its low-lying landscape. Harris County had an estimated population of 5,045,026 in 2025, about 6.7% above the 2020 estimates base. Energy, petrochemicals, health care, aerospace, manufacturing, logistics and international trade through the Port of Houston anchor its economy.
