The Burrillville School Department said it is investigating a “cybersecurity event” that occurred in the early morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025. Officials said they took immediate action, engaged law enforcement and outside cybersecurity professionals, and kept schools open while internet-dependent services were down Wednesday and Thursday. No student or staff Chromebooks were affected, Superintendent Michael Sollitto said. Separately, a local outlet reported the target included Burrillville High School; the district has not detailed scope or cause. The incident happened in Burrillville, Rhode Island.

The district serves roughly 2,000 students across six schools—an early learning center, two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school—and is overseen by the Burrillville School Committee. District headquarters are in Harrisville, a village within the town of Burrillville in northwestern Rhode Island. Officials said teaching and learning continued during the outage, and the investigation is ongoing.
