Cyberattack Targets Massachusetts South Shore 911 Dispatch Center

An apparent cyberattack disrupted operations at the South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center in Hingham, Massachusetts, on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The center, which provides 911 call and dispatch services for the towns of Hingham, Cohasset, Norwell, and Hull, reported issues with its computer-aided dispatching software. Officials confirmed there was no impact on emergency response times or service availability. The FBI is closely monitoring the incident, which is believed to have been perpetrated by a group with suspected ties to Russia.

The affected dispatch software was provided by Global Data Systems, and the issue persisted for much of the day before services were restored. While first responders reverted to manual and radio-based systems, callers remained unaware of the backend disruption. Investigations by Norwell police, Massachusetts State Police, and the FBI are ongoing. Experts suggest motivations could include disruption of emergency services, theft of sensitive data, or financial gain. It remains unclear if any confidential information was compromised.
