Nevada shuts state offices after network security incident

State officials in Carson City, Nevada, said Monday that a “network security incident” discovered Sunday morning disrupted websites, phone lines and other state systems, prompting Gov. Joe Lombardo to pause in-person services at executive branch agencies for the day. Emergency services, including 911, remained operational while NV.gov and multiple agency portals were intermittently offline, according to the Governor’s Office of Technology and local reports.

The FBI is assisting the investigation, and the state reports no evidence that residents’ personal information was compromised. Impacted operations included DMV counters and services at public safety agencies such as Nevada State Police and the Highway Patrol; officials said restoration efforts are underway and systems will be validated before coming back online. Residents were warned that some phone lines may be slow or unavailable and to watch for phishing attempts during recovery.
