Cyberattack Disrupts Ogeechee Judicial Circuit DA’s Office Serving Four Georgia Counties

The Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, headquartered in Statesboro, Georgia, was targeted by a cyberattack early Wednesday morning, June 11, 2025. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. and was intercepted by Georgia Technologies, the office’s IT contractor, preventing significant data loss, according to officials. The office—which serves Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties—will close all physical locations for five days to allow for investigation, system recovery and remediation. During this period, staff will have limited access to email and court appearances.

The office said Georgia Technologies’ 24/7 monitoring, implemented under District Attorney Robert Busbee, enabled real-time detection and response to the intrusion. A comprehensive backup system was initiated in late 2024 after earlier implementation was delayed due to cost concerns. Busbee has notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Cyber Crimes Division and is coordinating with judicial and law enforcement partners to maintain essential court functions. The office plans to provide updates through its official Facebook page.

The incident follows several cyberattacks affecting local governments and judicial systems across the U.S. in recent months. On June 1, the city of Durant, Oklahoma, experienced a ransomware attack that disrupted municipal operations. Similar breaches halted court services in Lorain County, Ohio; DuPage County, Illinois; and Strafford County, New Hampshire this spring. Georgia’s own Cobb County also reported a cyber incident in March. Officials say the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit DA’s Office remains under assessment as recovery efforts continue.
