Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
County or equivalent
Location overview
Providence County covers the northern half of Rhode Island and includes the state’s largest urban concentration. Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls and Woonsocket form a densely settled corridor, while western communities contain reservoirs, forests and more rural landscapes. The Blackstone River valley became one of the earliest industrial regions in the United States, with textile and metalworking communities growing around its waterways. Historic mill villages and compact city neighborhoods still trace that industrial geography. Education, health care, finance, manufacturing, arts and regional commerce connect the county with the wider New England economy.
