Hackers Target Marietta City Schools, Ransom Demands Issued
Earlier this month, Marietta City Schools in Marietta, Georgia, experienced a cyberattack that caused a network outage. Superintendent Grant Rivera confirmed on December 4 that unauthorized access had occurred but credited swift IT action with minimizing disruption. The following day, the ransomware group RansomHub claimed responsibility, alleging they had stolen 500 GB of data and issued a one-week ransom demand. It remains unclear whether the ransom was paid. In response, the district partnered with third-party investigators and implemented 24/7 monitoring software to strengthen security. The investigation is ongoing, with officials emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding data privacy and system integrity.
